Dr. Tyra Davis , a proud Louisiana native, graduated from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and began her career at Hammond Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1999 from Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge, before pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian.
A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Dr. Davis holds a graduate certificate in Teaching in the Health Care Professions from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, earned through the Louisiana State University Graduate School in 2019. She has also completed the Purdue Diversity and Inclusion Certificate and participated in the Blend Vet DEIB Spring 2024 Cohort, showcasing her commitment to equity and inclusion in veterinary medicine.
Currently, Dr. Davis serves as an Associate Professor of Agricultural Sciences at Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge, where she leads the Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program. She has also served as the 2020-2021 President of the National Association for Black Veterinarians and is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, Baton Rouge Veterinary Medical Association, AVTE, and Multicultural VMA. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc..
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Davis is a devoted mother to her son London and two bonus children, a proud Ouma to her “grandboy,” and a dog mom to her Sheepadoodle pup, Chai-Latte. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, exploring festivals, visiting art galleries, traveling, and cherishing moments with family and friends.
Dr. Davis is dedicated clinician, and an inspiring leader and advocate for inclusivity, education, and the next generation of veterinary professionals.
