The Institute for Healthcare Education Leadership and Professionals ("iHELP") (a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization) (the-ihelp.org) and the National Association for Black Veterinarians ("NABV"), (nabvonline.org).
Dr. Annie J. Daniel has over 20 years of experience as an educator and education leader in higher education. She has spent most of her career in academic and veterinary medicine. Her areas of expertise are curriculum development, course design, educational research, educational technology, student academic support, faculty development, educational policy, and strategic planning.
She is the founder and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Education Leadership and Professionals (iHELP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and the National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV). iHELP's mission is to increase the number of Black individuals in health professions by creating a pipeline into health professions and providing mentoring, networking, professional development, and career information for K-12 and pre-health students.
Previously, Dr. Daniel served as Director of Veterinary Instructional Design and Outcomes Assessment at Louisiana State University, where she managed curriculum initiatives and outcomes assessment for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Before LSU, she directed the Center for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning at Des Moines University, focusing on curriculum modernization, faculty development, and educational policy.
At Tulane University, Dr. Daniel reestablished the Office of Medical Education post-Hurricane Katrina, growing it from a two-person team to eight staff members while expanding services to students and faculty. Earlier, she was an assistant professor and Assistant Director of the Teaching, Technology, Learning, and Culture Center at Dillard University, where she revamped courses to enhance student success and founded the Middle-Level Education Institute.
Dr. Daniel earned her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University and has studied at Harvard Medical School and the University of Ghana. Her research interests include barriers for African American students in healthcare education, the impact of mentoring, and the role of technology in education. She has presented at numerous conferences and received awards for her research and advocacy for student success.
