Urinary tract infections are a common problem in female dogs. Dogs who have two or more infections in 6 months, or three or more in a year are classified as having recurrent urinary tract infections. This can be a frustrating problem for dog owners and veterinarians to deal with, and can impact the human animal bond. This session aims to cover the three different types of recurrent infection, and the underlying causes associated with these problems. We will discuss a diagnostic approach to these cases, with a particular focus on physical exam and tests that can be performed in house. Additionally we will cover treatment considerations, including antibiotic therapy, supportive care, and preventive measures.
