This session will introduce some background of SGLT-2 inhibitor use in human and veterinary medicine. We will discuss mechanisms for how this class of drugs work to reduce blood glucose and resolve diabetic clinical signs. The primary focus of the talk will be on proper patient selection and monitoring of SGLT-2 inhibitors in cats, with some discussion of current off-label uses and potential future benefits of these drugs.
